Sheep Card

"The consistent, enduring presence of a caring adult in a young person’s life can be the difference between staying in school or dropping out, making healthy decisions or engaging in risky behaviors, and realizing one’s potential or failing to achieve one’s dreams. Mentors can make a profound difference in the lives of their mentees — and in turn, strengthen our communities, economy, and country.”

BE A MENTOR!

Mentor volunteers have a desire to spend fun-filled and care-free time with children in need of a special friend and are fully committed to the needs of their mentees and youth mentoring in general. Goals are to develop a close friendship based on trust, respect, and communication, promote fun and healthy life choices through safe, creative activities, increase the mentee’s self-esteem, and foster awareness and accountability for his or her actions.

Mentors in our Community Pals program commit to meet with their mentee for approximately two hours a week, or six to eight hours a month for one year. We ask our School Pals program mentors to meet with their mentee in school one hour a week for the duration of the school year.

Activities are determined by the mentor pairs, whether outdoors, indoors, or at the various regional organizations that provide discounts or free access.

We carefully match our mentors and mentees to maximize the likelihood that the mentorship will succeed. To become a mentor, you will be 18 years of age or older, complete a written application, provide three references, and participate in an in-home interview (Community Pals only), as well as a background check. Mentors and mentees will initially commit to meet consistently for a one-year period.

Windsor County Mentors does not discriminate on the basis of race, color, religion, age, gender, sexual orientation, national origin, physical disability, or veteran status.
